This evening His Lordship, Bishop Peter Elliott, launched a new book by Dr. Tracey Rowland entitled "Ratzinger's Faith: The Theology of Pope Benedict XVI" and published by Oxofrd University Press. The book explores the development of Pope Benedict's thought, with particular reference to problems within the tradition of the Catholic Church such as ecclesiology, liturgy and Revelation. It also provides an insight into the influence of Plato, Sts. Augustine and Bonaventure, and John Henry Newman on the Holy Father - influences which stand in contrast to the Aristotelian-Thomistic thought of his predecessors.
Dr. Rowland is Dean and Associate Professor at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family (Melbourne). She is a member of the editorial board of Communio and holds a doctorate from Cambridge University.
NB For those wondering about the title of this post, Bishop Elliott eluded to the fact that Dr. Rowland's book is outselling Joseph and Chico: The Life of Pope Benedict XVI as Told by a Cat.
