St. Francis de Sales

The opening of the Library could not have been more timely as we commemorate the feast of St. Francis De Sales - Bishop of Geneva, Doctor of the Church, Founder of the Order of the Visitation and patron of writers.

Best known for his works An Introduction to the Devout Life and Treatise on the Love of God, St. Francis also wrote numerous letters, sermons and pamphlets defending the Catholic Faith. In many of his works he encouraged his readers to practice the "little virtues" - friendship, gentleness, humility, patience and obedience - which he considered proper to the littleness of ordinary souls. In this he was very much a kindred spirit of the Little Flower, St. Therese of Lisieux.
